SUBJECT: Report Proposal for the Future of Facebook
Ever since Facebook launched back in February 2004, it has been one of the most popular social networking sites on the internet. With more and more people joining the site, it has led businesses to create their own Facebook pages and allowing ad space to bring their goods & services to a bigger audience. I propose to write a report on how businesses are letting their presence be known on Facebook and how efficient their marketing ploys are at targeting Gen-Y users on the site. Need As it is becoming harder to attract the attention of Gen-Y through traditional ways, companies need to find a suitable method of advertising to gain the attention of these possible customers. · Recently Twitter has developed a business plan in which they will use “Promoted Tweets.” These “tweets” will pay messages that will appear over some of Twitter.com search result pages. The businesses that will appear through these “promoted tweets” include: Best Buy, Bravo, Red Bull, Sony Pictures, Starbucks, and Virgin America.[1] · Since Gen-Y is closely connected to the internet, it is hard for businesses to use traditional advertising methods, such as newspapers, magazines, and radio ads, etc., to attract this particular group of people.
Since a large majority of Gen-Y is on Facebook (about 70% according to InsideFacebook.com)|[2], and is accessed by millions of people each day, Facebook appears to be the best place businesses should establish themselves in order to gain more customers. Topics
The proposed report “Businesses on Facebook: How to Attract Consumers Through Social Networking” will cover these topics: · How Gen-Y uses Facebook · Following how a current business that is trying to work with Facebook · Are businesses that are currently on Facebook selling gender-specific items, and or offering incentives for Facebook users.
